Pumpkin Question

Ive just harvested my Iron Bark pumpkins (Australian heirloom) but two had a small patch of root on there side so blew it off with the high pressure hose then put them in the sun hoping that might stop it from getting any worse,but i don't think its going to work,anyone know if there's something i can put on the exposed flesh to stop the root from spreading,did think of using wax maybe or petroleum jelly maybe..........?

They are beautiful. nice work!

i've heard that you shouldnt seal the bad spots as that will make it worse, however, i dont remember what you are supposed to do.

Its not a major deal really as ive got plenty to see us right for ages,its just that most pumpkins need a month or so storage after harvest to improve there flavour so it would be nice if i could stop the two with root from getting any worse, but if not,i'm sure the hens will enjoy them.

Last year, I had a few holes where vine borers had crawled out of my spaghetti squash (nice surprise to find on the kitchen counter

). I used wax to seal the hole. It worked, but it was just a short term fix as we ate them within a month or so.
