Which of these varieties to grow in a container?

Hi All,

Which of the following varieties would you grow in a container?

Una's Yellow Cherry
Mexico
Tangerine
Anna's Russian
Aunt Ruby's Green

I started these varieties in early January. They have become too big for the area where I have them. I was thinking about relocating 1-2 of them to containers now. This would require that I haul them into the garage at night.

I'm growing Anna Russian in pots this year so I'm interested,as well,in your other responses.

Any variety works in pots, though with the really large ones like Mexico a very large pot will give the best results. I've grown Aunt Ruby's Green and Anna Russian in large pots and they do fine. Cherry tomatoes do great even in smaller pots.

Thanks Nctomatoman. That's what I thought. The pot needs to be small/light enough for me to move it into the garage every night until the weather warms up.

I have a Black Cherry plant sitting here in front of me in a 1 gallon container. Its about 3 feet tall and has ripe fruit. Not bad in North Alabama for this time of year. I have been sitting it outside in direct sun any time the temp is high enough. Given a choice though, I think it would be happier in a larger pot.

Hi Fusion_power. Thanks for sharing your information. I agree with you that a one gallon container is quite small. I was think more along the lines of a 10 gallon container. Do you think that a five gallon container will give me enough tomatoes to be able to decide if Una's Yellow Cherry is worth keeping for years to come? To be quite honest, I would be happy just growing enough of each variety so that I able to learn which I like and dislike.
