Fall season options for LI, NY area?

This is interesting. I live in the lOng Island, NY area and my cucumber plants all look like they have had it. The plants are all drying out and dying. They don't owe me anything. We must have had 100 lb of cucumbers this summer.

At this point in time if I remove the plants, what can I plant in their stead?

You might be able to get some lettuce or spinach in.

I keep threatening to put wheat in on the east side of the yard. It might be easier to keep under control than the weeds.

I didn't put in any cukes this year, but I did get some at a Farmers Market and put up 6 quarts of pickles today.

BTW, I checked another Hy-Vee here in Lincoln and a Super Saver, and they both have Halloween candy on display. :sigh:

try Rover Radish (Jung) or Philedelphia Whitebox, French Breakfast (Rareseeds) or any of the small round varietys, some of the long slender varietys take longer.

My favorites are China Rose and Philedelphia White Box

I agree that in your area there's definitely time for radishes, spinach, lettuce and other greens, with the lettuce being the most sensitive to the first frost. You can also wait a bit and have space to plant garlic later in the fall.

I can never get my cukes to keep going into September...pulled the plants at the end of this week and finished the last fruit tonight.
