Default Exel LG: Foliar or soil drench?

Just got mine. Directions for tomatoes are for foliar, but in another part of the material, it talks about using it as a soil drench. What do you do?

Hi Michael. Last year I used it as a foliar. More specifically, I combined it with Actinovate as a foliar. I had good results. I compared this with a foliar spraying of Serenade. In the rows that were sprayed with Excel, the rate of increase in diseased foliage was much slower. I think I was able to harvest for 3 more weeks in teh Excel treated rows versus the Serenade treated rows.
Of note: I had the same varieties in both sets of trial rows.

Michael, I have found no need to use EXEL LG as a soil drench. As a systemic the product should reach the roots via foliar applications. Ami

Bill and Ami-Thanks for your posts, I think I will just foliar it. Dont know yet if I will combine with Actinovate.

My practice is never to spray anything except early in the morning.

Ok thanks. Its tough because I go to work at 530 so it leaves only sat and sun. Hmm

Cran

ok, maybe you can do your spraying when its cooled down in the evening, but the problem is, your plants may stay wet overnight, and I dont think thats good re:disease.

Cran, being in Southern Cal you may only need to apply once a week depending on your location. Ami

Thanks Ami. I'm in a bit of a micro climate, since I live on an island. Up until July 75% of the mornings I will get a marine layer blocking out heavy sun and since I'm surrounded by ocean the humidity level stays around 50-60.
Since I was hoping to spray once a week I thought it would be overkill to do foliar nutes one day (sat) and then foliar disease prevention, exel lg and actinovate (sun). I though the plants might like a little more time to soak up what they're given, but I'm probably wrong.

What do you think.

Yes same here. The moisture at night will cause the foliage to be dripping in the early morning.

I am not believing this. Been there many times. My grandmother was a member of the Balboa Yacht Club and had a 32 foot cabin cruiser docked there. We used to go down on the weekends and my dad would work on the boat. That was many years ago. Definitely know the area. My Grandmother had a house in Newport 4-5 miles inland and I would plant her tomato plants for her in the backyard. They grew very well if I remember right. Ami
