Big Storm
As I write this a rather severe line of thunderstorms are on my doorstep.
Nothing as of yet but the warning are up and Allentown made the Weather Channel for a bulls eye. I took a last look at my plants and my pumpkin and went inside. I hope I'm wrong but this appears very very bad indeed. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me. Julia |

Update- Storms have now wiped out at least the first row of my tomato plants along with removing parts of my neighbors back porch enclosure.
The storm front was the damaging part. I was outside like a stupid idiot watching all this unfold. Now torrential rain is falling along with much lightning activity. Julia |

PA has gotten some bad luck the last few years. We heard from the people we sold our house to that the flooding (last year or the year before?) filled the basement up to the first floor board on our old house.
Hope it isn't as bad as you thought, and especially that the pumpkin was spared from harm!

I was able to quickly asses the damage.
It appears that 4 tomato plants out of 25 are gone so 21 left. I can live with that. Part of the pumpkin plant has been destroyed but it was mostly territory vines ( vines tht come off the secondary vines that were hit that I needed to remove anyway. The wind did destroy my 8ft decorative windmill by knocking it down. It could have been much worse. Thank you all for your well wishes and concern. Julia |

Julia, I'm glad you are safe and your garden was only partially damaged. We had a storm build near us today but it went south instead of west so we didn't get anything. We are supposed to have storms for the next few days which will definitely bring us cooler weather and hopefully some rain. I've started cutting my tomato plants back from 10' and 12' tall to 18" tall for the fall. I wouldn't mind if a storm helped me out by blowing a few down low enough for me to reach the tops.

Sorry you got hit, Julia. Glad you're ok and that most of your tomatoes and pumpkin will be ok. Looking at the radar I'm not sure how we had no wind damage- and less than 0.1" of rain. Hopefully you'll at least get a helpful amount of rain out of it.

Thank you Kath. We received a little under a quarter inch in my area of town. That's the silver lining. As I type this the sun is out and setting and we are definitely cooler so at least that's a good thing. |

Julia, glad to see that the damage was more or less negligible, and you still have a positive attitude. Wishing you (and all of us) better weather in the future.

Glad to hear you and your garden both made it through that Julia. I can't imagine how it would feel to lose a whole garden. Now I am going to tell you what my mother would tell me after something like that...
. . The next time there is a storm you stay inside and look out the window young lady! Your noggin could get hurt just as easily as the pumpkin in your garden you know!
