Six Watermelon(Crimson Sweet)plants were placed in the outdoor garden. These were started from seed about the 25 of April in the greenhouse. The weather is going to be warm now, so they should thrive outdoors.Watermelon cannot tolerate cold, and they must be hardened off carefully or they stop growth.These small plants have been hardened off for about three weeks.The vines are allowed to grow on the grass. The bed was previously prepared and is heavily mulched with wood chips to retain moisture.

How are your watermelon doing?
I have planted 7 blacktail mountain watermelon plants and have 34 melons at last count (10 days ago). The largest is just above a softball size as of yesterday. I'm curious as to how long it has taken yours to grow and where they stand right now.
I am in Everett WA, Zone 7B.

You are way ahead of me in my Zone 5. The fruit is just a small ball now, but very green and healthy in appearance.

On July 31, it was about the size of a ping pong ball.
On August 3, it was about the size of a baseball.

Now its exceeding the size of a softball!

Growing quite well.Should have some nice fruit.

Wow! Those look amazing! They are definitely bigger than mine!
Do you know the date when they were marble sized? I just want to know what the time progression is for the fruit production so bad! I'm so impatient!

I looked at the small fruit last week and could hardly find them, so after a certain size they grow fairly rapidly. They appear to take forever to ripen and you cannot rush them. Rather shocking to have around ten all ripe at once.
