Default Ikie

Ikie is a red heart (Oxheart) that I got seed from Marion Yoder OH YO M through the SSE Yearbook. It was only listed in 2011 and 2012 then disappeared as did the lister
M. Yoder. Here is the description as posted by M. Yoder in the SSE Yearbook.

Quote:
A beautiful meaty tomato the size of a beefsteak (average over a pound) with the shape of an oxheart. Thick flesh is ideal for paste, but awesome for eating to. Mellow flavor when raw, with a lovely complexity when cooked. A local lady gave this to me with the comment "my great grandfather got these from a dear friend". She told me that her family wouldn't keep them going, so I had to, then left. I don't know her name , only that she lives in Lakeville Ohio.
All I can say is the description is accurate and the only thing I havn't done is cook them. A beautiful heart with good production and will try to preserve the variety as was M. Yoder's intention and will probably list it in the 2014 SSE Yearbook.

Very nice looking hearts. Hearts are going to be a significant number of the tomatoes I grow next year.

Looks great says thi love rof hearts.

OK, that one was SSE listed for two years but there's another one that has become very well known that was listed for only ONE year, then the lister disappeared and that was Aunt Ginny's Purple. If Bill Minkey hadn't spied it and got the seeds we wouldn't have it today.

Carolyn, who maybe should spend more time reading the tomato section of the annual SSE yearbooks, but it's the largest section in the yearbook and I guess her eyes get tired.

Very pretty and the "heartiest" looking heart I've ever seen.

Could you show a crosswise slice? I always like to see the seed cavities.

I was able to harvest probably the last two today and did a crosswise slice for you to see.
