Biggest Purple Variety Tomatillo?

As stated above, what is the biggest purple variety and where can I get it?

Well, now I feel stupid because they are not offering it this year. I have no Idea who else may have the large ones. I grow this tomatillo and it is really large. I have no extra seed here in Mexico because I planted all of mine...

LOL! That's o.k. I ordered some from Southern Seed Exposure. They had several I had never heard of before. Ordered the Everona, Cisineros,Purple, and Dr. Wyche's.

Should keep me VERY busy

It's hard to be patient for everything to fruit! I guess I will make sure my propane tanks are ready. I plan to grill up major feast this summer!!!!

I am growing "John Wyche", which I got from SSE via the Yearbook... probably the same variety? The seedlings are very fast growing, they were planted at the same time as my tomatoes & eggplant, and have outpaced all of them. Next year I will start tomatillos a week later than everything else.

Which one are you talking about Brokenbar? There are two on that rareseeds website, the larger (Coban or something) is available, says one inch in diameter.

Make it two weeks! Dang things are like a tomato on crack! Nothing I have ever grown grows as fast as tomatillo's. They are RUDE!

The ones I got from Baker Creek were named "Large Purple". I get some that are nearly 4" around but most average 3". Bigger than any others I have grown and much sweeter than regular ripe tomatillos. I make "Salsa Violetta" with mine. A hot/sweet chunky sauce (recipe posted on this forum.)

I've got the purple variety Remy sells at the Sample Seed Shop, man these things grow fast! I've never grown them before.

Duh....My Bad. I missed the "ill" in tomatillo in this thread.

I grew Dr. Wyche's Yellow Beefsteak tomato last year and I automatically reacted to the fact that it isn't purple. Sorry tomatillo folks.

I have very little knowledge of tomatillos. I only have 2 varieties. I've never heard of a Dr. Wyche's yellow tomatillo until I just googled it. Amazing that there is a Dr. Wyches tomatillo and tomato.

OK, now back to the purple issue (of which I have no knowledge either).

They had it in the Tomatillo section, so I am assuming there is a tomatillo and a tomato named the same thing....

Not a *big* tomatillo -- but the folks at Adaptive Seeds are working at breeding a medium-size purple tomatillo with good keeping qualities -- http://adaptiveseeds.com/content/tom...odern-landrace
