Match heads for peppers?

Anyone place match heads around pepper plant roots?
Does it make a difference? If so, what does it do for the plant?

I have read about this . Evidently something with sulphur. Never tried it.

A match head is a phosphorus sulfide material. Epsom salt is Magnesium sulfate

Just one of those gardening myths that has no credible scientific proof that I could find. One theory is that since peppers prefer a slightly acidic soil, the sulfur in the matches will lower the PH in the root zone. Another is that the matches benefit the plant as a source of phosphorus. Take your pick.
One thing is for sure, there are better and cheaper ways to supplement Sulfur and Phosphorous in the soil.
