I love the colors of Cherokee Long Ear popcorn, and the vigorous growth, and high productivity, and resistance to animal predation... Unfortunately, the strain I grew had not been maintained as a popcorn, it was more of a decorative corn so it didn't pop well.

I dont know yet if it will pop well. These are the first cobs and I will keep them for a while to admire.... I have only 5 plants but more cobs to come. They are not ripe yet.
I will tell you if they are good for poping and if yes, I cold send you some. The one with lots of white has very spiky small grains, the other ones have more roundish grains Last edited by charline; September 15, 2014 at 02:04 PM. |

I brought this thread up to a guy at work.
He had no idea there was such a thing as popcorn. I asked him how in the devil he thought they got popcorn. He said he had never thought about it. What on earth is our world coming to. Worth |

The sheer stupidity of it is beyond imagination.
How could a person 38 years old be that oblivious of the world around them. Popcorn how do you grow popcorn? Fricking what, what do you mean you plant it. Really but how does it become popcorn? I was very polite and explained it all to him. People have no idea there is flint dent sweet and popcorn. Are we doomed to microwave popcorn. I dont even buy the stuff it is so expensive that way. He has to have me debone the breasts and won't eat the dark meat unless I put it in something. His kids won't touch bones either, except to have a roast turkey for TG. Some of his kids won't even touch steak with bones! |

I think I have that same interaction about 5 or 6 times a year when I tell people I grow popcorn. That's very sad to me as well. At this point I shouldn't be surprised any more.

I had a good laugh but actually it is very sad.
Nowadays people do not know where food is coming from. I live in the country and even here some people do not know that a cow must have a calf to produce milk. It is a good thing that they know the milk is not coming from a milk factory but from a cow. But when I tell them that a cow has to have a calf to produce milk they get big eyes with question marks in it....... |

YES ! Women too !
I hope they know where human babies come from.... let me tell you another story: I am breeding American Quarter Horses. I also have Appaloosas. I bred one of my QH mares to an Appaloosa stud for an Appaloosa foal. One year after that I sold the mare to a (female) friend and she asked me if the mare ever could have a pure QH foal again now she has had a crossbred baby. She thought that from now on the mare always would make an Appaloosa foal. Serious. And she is a breeder herself. Sometimes it is really hard..... |
