Up here the humidity during the warmer months often causes bad things to happen if I try hanging veggies or herbs up to dry. The only thing I've been able to do that with successfully are the thin-walled Italian peppers I grow for making Italian paprika. They don't mature until late September after the summer heat and humidity are gone.

This year, we are drying all the peppers in a pizza oven. We chose not to use the Nuwave oven. |

Salt if you have an electric oven you can put it on the lowest setting and prop the door open.
I have dried tons of peppers like this. A gas oven puts out moisture from the gas and doesn't do as well but I have used them for it. The air conditioning in my house keeps the humidity down so in the summer and even now things dry out great. With my electronics background I have no idea why I haven't built a killer dehydrator. It would be so simple. Worth |

I figured I could personally supply the hot air.
Once I put a bunch of okra pods in my tool chest and forgot about them. A few months later there they were nice and green and completely dehydrated. It didn't work with the dead frog in my junk drawer when I was a kid though. Worth |

That reminded me of the time I forgot and left fresh caught fish in the trunk of my 1970 Camaro. The next day, I learned what concentrated Lysol is used for.
We have a gas stove, but use an electric pizza oven just for drying peppers for the reason you wrote above. Next summer, I'm going to grow Poblano peppers. I'm going to try the Nuwave oven then. |

Speaking of bad smells we couldn't figure out where one was coming from at work.
Then someone spotted a clamshell on the counter where we were working. Open it up someone said. So someone did and low and behold what was in it but a rotten slimy slice of prime rib at least a week old. When that lid came open it was like a bomb went off. I thought I was going to puke right then and there. |

Talking of bad smells, I once bought some souvlaki, took some home in a doggy bag and forgot about it in on the floor of the car. It took me a while to figure out where that smell of SKUNK was coming from .

That looks so good!
It also makes me think of my German grandparents. I miss them. |
