national canner #7
I have an old National Canner #7 and I need a sealing ring. My local hardware store sold me a sealing ring ,however the locking pin on the canner prevents the ring from sealing properly.. Do I press the ring down over the pin or do I have the wrong ring?

Steve,
I can't answer that. If someone else doesn't chime in, you can try the Oregon St Univ extension website where you can "ask an expert". Nellie usually answers them pretty quickly. http://extension.oregonstate.edu/com...d-preservation

I'm back it is part number 09907 that you want.
I will post a link to the amazon site. Read what the folks have to say below the product. This is the part number that the folks at presto said fit. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.eXY&cad=rja Worth |

I think this may help with your problem.
Download this manual and refer to page 14: http://www.pickyourown.org/canning_e...structions.pdf Refer to this page for additional sealing ring info: http://www.pressurecooker-outlet.com/7.htm Be sure to read questions and reviews by purchasers(feedback). There is info on seal install: http://www.amazon.com/Presto-Pressur.../dp/B000LL9NY2 Last edited by dustdevil; March 22, 2015 at 01:40 PM. |

read the directions
thanks for the manuals..the directions say to replace the seal "IN THE COVER"..hmm. I was placing the seal on the body of the canner. I can't see where the seal would go in the lid(cover) unless the groove that would hold the seal was so filled with old gunk. I must be dense because what should be obvious isn't.

Can you post a couple of pictures of the canner and the lid? It would help in solving your canner problem.

There may have been a seal design change over the years. I do know that the early ones with wooden handles have a wide pot rim with a very wide seal. Perhaps the more O-ringish seal with grooves is for later models. Compare your canner with the pdf manual I suggested you download. That manual is a copy of the original National #7. Hopefully some clown didn't mix a top of one model with the bottom of another model...I don't know if that's possible, but who knows!
Call Presto customer service if you still can't figure it out. That's all I've got. Good Luck! |

Thanks for everyone's efforts. I don't have a digital camera..going to have to get one.
I did order another seal just in case I got the wrong one the first time. |
