Most of the refurbished have only a 30-90 day warranty....not the original 5 or 10 year warranty. For all you users out there....have you had any problems? do I take a chance on the refurbished? It can be a 50-75 dollar difference....

I would go with the full warranty.

I bought my KitchenAid mixer refurbished but there isn't a thing I cant fix on it.
A food dehydrator I would have no idea.

By the way I would go for the 9.
What are you looking at, the stainless or the regular, with or without timer?
On their site there isn't really that much difference in the price for 4 more trays.

I like the red one.
By the way I am looking as I write this post.
I noticed something, the colors are only available in the ones with timers.
Dirty dogs.

Has anyone looked into a Weston?

I am a market gardener, growing too many tomatoes for any sane person in this rural area. So I dehydrate the extras, and have been successful at selling them at my farmers market. And last year I added pepper powders to my offerings. So the two machines get pretty heavy use in season.

I like drying tomatoes and adding them to soups, stews, etc in the winter time.

Last fall, I bought a huge bag of onions on sale and dehydrated them all. I put them in baggies inside a large heavy duty ziplock bag that had contained dog treats (because they were stinky) and it was great not having to deal with onions all winter.

Eggplant is really good dried and added to stews etc.

Zuchinni dries well for chips!

Kale chips were ok when I didn't over-dry them....

I used to live by it when I was working in the oil field years ago.

The reason I would go with the nine tray if I was buying today is that there isn't a lot of space between the trays and if you have foods that need a bit more headroom you have to leave out every other tray. With a five tray model that leaves me only two usable trays. With a nine tray I could use four at a time.

Yes, I agree. I run into this problem with my Excaliber too. Not a lot of room between the trays. Makes it challenging to dry some things. Btw, I have a Harvest Maid I think it is(?) - one of those round ones with a fan that stacks up. I've had it at least 20 yrs and it is still working fine. I don't mind rotating the trays. Nice to have two going during the summer.

Thanks for starting this thread. i have been looking for a great dehydrator for a while. I found the 3900b at Walmart for $201.25, but not the extra"free" bells and whistles that cost 48 dollars more at Excalibur. It comes with free shipping and full warranty.

Are you buying the economy 9 tray or the deluxe? Will the 440 watts compared to the 600 make that much difference? I don't care about the timer.

Looks like the deluxe model with 9 trays and 600 watts of tomato scorching power.
At that price and free shipping I would jump on it.

After thoroughly reviewing Worth's research on this for 45 seconds I went ahead and ordered it. I'm counting on Worth's faithful and reliable good work. I did purchase the 3 yr warranty as he suggests. Thanks Worth! I will always think of you as I enjoy my dried tomatoes and other good stuff.
