Asian veggies

I am thinking of growing some Asian veggies’ under my tomato plants.

Anyone tried this before?

Anyone in Z6/Z7 tried this?

Anyone in Z6/Z7 tries this with not much sun (6 hours)?

What varieties would you recommend?

Hey there fellow New Yorker, regarding your growing Asian veggies under tomatoes....it would really depend what kinds of veggies you are talking about. If you mean greens I don't think it would be a good idea, because greens usually need a good bit of nitrogen and tomatoes don't. If both plants are in the same NPK required needs, it might work, but remember most tomato plants get really big once fully grown, and the tomatoes may create too much shade for what ever veggies you are planning.

I am not expecting showcase end results. It just that I am too lazy to pick weeds under the tomatoes. So I am hoping the veggies will crowd out the weeds, and if I get a little veggie something to eat at the end, all the better.

Nope not from Canada, simply named after my birthfather, Albert, strangely enough, I believe he was born in Canada, but since I never met the man, I'll never know for sure. Good luck with your asian veggies under your tomatoes.

Asian veggies are right up my alley (if I may be so bold).

I'm in zone 8, but these will work fine in your area. There are a huge number of Asian veggies. I'll recommend any of the radishes from the small, ping pong sized to the massive giants that are popular in Taiwan.

This next one is the big one......its leaves cover 2 plus feet across. Nothing grows under it.

You could also try this next one. It's similar to chives except it has more of a garlic flavor.

I have ordered from this company before. They are similar to Kitazawa seeds IMO.
