Name that tree???

Just moved into this house one year ago. Live in Minneapolis - zone 4. Tree has tons of raspberry/blackberry like fruit. I assume it is edible. Can anyone tell me what the tree is???

Yes, Mulberry. Berries come in dark blue when ripe, or the less common pale yellow/cream colored. Both are edible when ripe, but tend to give a belly ache when unripe and red. These are the berries responsible for the blue/purple bird doo on your windshield.

They make good jellies. They are pretty seedy though like a black berry.

I agree, it looks like a Mulberry. Fruit tastes good too.

All of the above are correct. It is a Mulberry, Makes for good fresh eating. Great jelly. Pretty much anywhere or any recipe that calls for raspberries can use mulberries. But as also noted above, best run through a strainer first when making cobbler or jellies due to the seeds.

However there is a use not mentioned yet. Really good chicken feed too. Chickens LOVE mulberries. So do almost all song birds. As long as you have plenty of mulberries, the birds shouldn't be pecking at your tomatoes.

Yummy. I love them and the trees are great shade trees. Birds love them,too.
Can get a little messy with the blue bird poop.
They volunteer a lot. I had one in OK and AZ, both volunteers from bird poop,I guess.

Mulberry, yes.

But, Morus alba (white) or Morus rubra (red)? Your zone 4 tells me it's not Morus nigra (black). White mulberry will have undersides of leaves smooth, red mulberry will have undersides hairy. Red mulberries are usually a dark red, while white mulberries can be almost white to pale pink, pale lavender, a dark red to almost black, and maybe some other colors.

If there is no male pollinator nearby, fruit will be seedless (like my mulberry

).
Unfortunately, birds has been eating nearly all of the fruit this year.
