The Edible Alternative for Ponds
Just sharing a picture of the spring pond. On the pond forums many are partial to using tropicals around their plants.
I'm into edible landscaping. The area around my pond includes a ton of edibles including: Ginger Watercress Waterchestnut Thyme Red Mustard Chamomile Mint Purple Peacock Broccoli Eggplant Strawberry Blueberry Basil-Lesbos Rosemary Taro Brown Heirloom Rice Purple Beans Chard Basil-Purple ruffles Bee Balm Allium Fern<--Not that I would every eat these! Lovely pond picture. Do you strictly raise Koi in it or edible fish?

Beautiful! What a wonderful transformation from the pond pictures that you showed last winter, when it was covered and there was snow on the ground.

Rhubarb looks really exotic when grown around a pond! Unfortunately, it doesn't work if your pond is subject to flooding - as mine was the year that I tried it .

Just noticed this thread. I need to renovate a koi pond when I'm off work in a month or so. Really like your waterfall and edible landscape. I'll have to keep it in mind.
I'm planning to put around it some blueberries, chard, kale, watercress, mint, lemon balm,Rosemary, lavender and ginger. I'm not sure what else. Maybe some potted citrus,to go into the greenhouse for winter. Some artichokes and maybe cardoons? How about sweet potatoes, scarlet runner beans, and flamingo beans, season depending? Elephant garlic, leeks, chives and other alliums, for sure. I'm hoping to find some more pretty, perennial fruits and veggies for that area. Last edited by Tracydr; July 1, 2015 at 07:30 PM. |
