New England Heirloom Growers

I see people from New England posting. I'm sure I am not the only one who would love to have something similar to CHOPTAG or Tomatopalooza(tm) here in New England. Anyone else interested in paticipating in and/or helping organize such a group? Or maybe there already is a New England organization and I haven't heard of it?

My dad and mom live in Rhode Island - I send him 16 heirlooms that he enthusiastically grows each year. If something does happen, I am sure he would love to attend, if it is not too far away.

Charlie,

While NYS is not technically NE I do live less than a mile from the VT border on the other side of Egg MT from Manchester, VT.

And you know I'd like to participate in some way, but while still in this walker from my fall it's just plain impossible, and I think you know that.

Besides, I won't know until my Mar2 appt with the neurosugeon what the orthopedic surgeon might or might not do re surgery for a new hip this summer.

It's not only getting very complicated, but everything is up in the air right now.

So thanks for understanding my many dilemmas.

I am sure I speak for the entire group when I say,"We would be honored and elated for you to participate in any way you can." As a matter of fact anyone from anywhere is more than welcome.

I am getting quite excited about this. Gained another interested person this morning, so the "confirmed" interested is up to 12, I think. It sure would be great if we could all get together on this forum and hash out a few details. I have requested to all that they join Tomatoville. I have to be more patient, LOL.

Count me in! We leave our two-tomato season Paradise Valley AZ every June and summer in Raymond, Maine. Have been thinking about grow bags, back of SUV, etc. protection of small plants from dogs in back of SUV, etc.
Depending on how I solve the "third tomato season " (clone?)problem, I may not be able to contribute much in terms of crop, but enthusiasm is there!

Now I know this is a stupid question, but why do they call it New England? Did a Google search and came up w/ nothing to real answer.

In 1620 the Pilgrims, fleeing religious prosecution, landed their ship the Mayflower in what they later named Plymouth (Plimoth) Massachusetts, after their home city of Plymouth, England. (U.K.)

The actual rock they allegedly first stepped on is a historical landmark here, (Plymouth Rock) and there's also a breed of chicken, an insurance company and numerous other businesses named after it.

New England - Birthplace of the United States of America :wink:
