We have been having our own heat wave here in Germany for the last week with daytime temps ranging from 95-105 degrees F. Should be getting back to normal by the weekend.

I'm trying to convert to be a pruner. It worked well for me this year; I just didn't do enough of it. Most of the pruning is early in the year when there are few fruit. The object is not to have less foliage, but rather to have the same foliage amount, only higher off the ground. Any leaves or suckers that touch the ground are going to die off from blight anyway, at least in my location, and they also give the bugs an easy path to climb up the plant.
