Selling Herb Plants

I've been kicking around the idea of growing and selling herb plants at the local farmer's market. In MI you don't need a license to sell annual plants and most of the vendors sell only herb cuttings I've noticed. Herb plants in about 5" pots at the local nursury usually sell for around $5.00 each.

Does anyone do this? If so, how is the demand and what types of prices do you get?

I set out a flat ( 36 count) of six packs for $ 2.50 of Big leaf basil, pennyroyal, St Johnswort, skullcap, valerian, oregano, chives, and asparagus. Some years they're a hit, some years a yawn.

Last year rhubarb in gallon pots was the hit.

Its a lottery

Pay no attention to the tomato stained man behind the terminal.

One summer I sold catnip under the label "Meowie Wowie" at a 8 dealer street corner market in Pismo Beach, California. Plants weren't my main line but the catnip sold well and customers got a kick out of the name. Sure is easy to grow.

Other plant I carried that summer was statice. Nothing to grow that either (at least in CA...here in CT it's more difficult). Lasts for years. Statice is great impluse buy for both women and men who buy it for women.
