Robert, I have been following this thread since the beginning and I thoroughly enjoy it. Your raised gardens appear to be very well thought out and functional. Thanks for all time you have taken to post the pictures and write the explanations. I read all your posts because they are unique. Thanks for giving us another glimpse into your realm.

Salt did you say they were over 5 feet wide mine are 5 feet wide and it kills me to get in the middle.
So much so that I am going to put a 2X8 cat walk down the middle.
You have done so much since your started here it looks wonderful.

Worth, they are 5'-5" or 66". I do appreciate your experience. I fully understand that it is difficult reaching that far in. The 66" beds fit the area and material I had. My overall cost was nails and screws, paint/paintbrush, gas for the mower to shred the leaves and diesel for the tractor to move the dirt. Use what you have and do the best you can.

Reaching into a 66" wide bed will be difficult. I am thinking about planting asparagus or ornamental plants in the center areas. Maybe a row of companion plants. A catwalk would be interesting. A row of beautiful stones, petrified wood, fossils/ammonites. A bunch of 2' tall tomato plants might work? Maybe some bleeding hearts or sunflowers?

I built the raised beds to improve a growing area - to keep me busy. Learning what and how to grow in these raised beds are the next experience.

Today, our son had time to move the rest of the soil needed to fill the last 3 raised beds. The two with a stone border are 3' x 14' and 3' x 21' They are both in dappled shade - but are close enough to say they are full shade beds. It should be interesting finding plants that grow in shade.

Robert they look nice you can grow more lettuce and radishes there than you can shake a stick at.

You dont even need to worry about the soil that much.

That is good news Worth. I've got 3 kinds of lettuce seeds I had no idea what to do with:

Little Gem
Slo Bolt
Black Seeded Simpson

Scarlet Globe and Sparkler White Top radishes.

As long as they get some sun they will be okay and will be good for winter crops when the leaves are gone.
Which way to they point?
