Pro Mix All Purpose - $3.50
was at my local Home Depot 2 days ago and saw a few pallets of 2 cu ft compressed "Pro Mix All Purpose Professional Grower's Mix" on sale for $3.50. Normal cost is about $14.
The 2 cu ft. expands to 4 cu ft. I bought as many as would fit on my cart. Seems like they are liquidating last year's supply or doing away with Pro Mix all together. |

Wow, great deal. I usually buy 5-7 bales of it when I go to Menards...at full price, of course. I get a flat cart instead of a shopping cart. That's about what it will hold.

I'm going to look at Walmart this coming Wednesday - it is getting late in the growing season according to Walmart - they need to make room for Halloween decorations
Last week, I did buy 3 bags of 10-10-10 because they won't have any in the next few weeks until next year. |

This was never carried by HD in my area but Menards has carried this last year since and got a new pallet for this year at the $14 price point. I've seen the bag open and it is very light. How does it compare to the BX?

I've never used the BX, but I use this exact product from Menards (bought mine a couple weeks ago with the 11% off rebate sale). I think highly of it and use it for growing my bucket/potted tomatoes, peppers, and flowers. It is expensive @ $14 per package, but it expands to 4 cu. ft., so actually it isn't that expensive compared to other bagged products and I've been very pleased with the result using this product.

I buy the Menards stuff, which is peat-based. But I do like the Fafard mix better, because it is made with pine bark fines instead of peat. When peat dries out, it likes to float, and it takes a few minutes to absorb the water.

ProMix is the best stuff ever and yet they don't market it. I've seen Home Depot do this before. It sits in the corner and then eventually they put it on steep discount and it's gone in two days.
As others said if I saw that price I'd load all I could and go rent a trailer for the rest.
