Spring Yet??
So what are you doing different in your greenhouse? Please see thread in general discussion about mid-level watering, that is my new thing. Plus self pollinating cucks, squash and some new ferts this season.

I am figuring out that my little electric heater works a lot better if I make hoops over my benches and put it under another layer of plastic with the plants.: http://i.imgur.com/vN5FJz3.jpg

Cole what you were using for those hoops? thin PVC? Like that idea. I am a bit over my capacity in the house this year so will need to go out earlier.

It's 1/2" CPVC. They are flimsy as can be, and would blow away in the wind, but there is no wind inside the greenhouse. The cheap painter's drop cloths are fine as plastic, too.
If I was making hoops outside, I would probably use metal conduit and 6-mil greenhouse plastic. Even then, anchoring the plastic is a pain. The past two days have had 40 mph wind gusts. |

Planted Out
Planted out some toms and peppers last weekend. Snowing today but temps are right at 32f so now problems. Sure like getting an early start.

Sauna
Have an abandoned wood fire sauna from the hippie era but now use an old guy hot tub instead. Sauna has many fond memories on days like today.

Still Spring!!
So it is still Spring here in Montana in the Rockies at 6000 feet in elevation. A struggle to grow anything outside so the greenhouse is the answer. Add some of you picks. These are from 4-27-2016

Wow. That's a lot of snow. How many days growing season do you get outside?

We got a few inches of snow here yesterday as well.
Whoose you are well ahead of me with the heated greenhouse! Very nice. My tomatoes are still in beer cups and waiting on new soil for the containers. I put them out in the greenhouse a few days ago, but chickened out on the forecast of snow and brought them in for the night. Greenhouse high yesterday was only 53 F so there was no point putting them out again, and this morning 44 F. They'll be going out again today, and will be planted this week I hope so no more shuffling, they'll have to tough it out. I didn't do a good job on the potting mix, so this is my excuse for not wanting to stress the tomatoes any more than they are. Here's a pic of spring in my unheated greenhouse last week. |
