Growing Shallots in Northern Climates
Reposted from an earlier thread:
I am new to shallots this year. I planted shallot and onion sets and seed grown onion plants around St Pats day. All have come up and doing okay (garlic looks more robust though). Today I picked up another bag of shallot sets from the sale bin. They are nice and firm, and I could possibly store them till fall. Are these ever planted in fall in my zone? They are yellow moon and picasso. The bag instructions show to plant April - June in my zone. The bag also states they are hardy to -30 - -40F. Is there a chance they will benefit from cold treatment, ie garlic? - Lisa |
