Random berry growing
This berry is growing wild next to a drainage pit near my house. Any idea what it is?

Hard to tell with the photo. Looks like something in the blackberry family (Rubus). Is the plant vining close to the ground, or growing upward? If close to the ground, my guess is some type of dewberry.

Yea, we have those in our flora... Like Tormato said, it's one of the Rubus. It may be the very tasty Rubus arcticus OR less tasty (but edible) Rubus saxatilis. or their close relative!
There are also some crosses and North America has their own variations... |

Rubus flagellaris, the common dewberry, would be my best guess (if it's a creeping vine). And, this dewberry while having mostly creeping vines, sometimes have erect vines.

Doesn't look like a creeping vine ... seems like it's shooting from the ground, like Rubus a. OR it could be an unripe Rubus chamaemorus (it gets golden when ripe), but I don't know if those grow in the area.
here's a Wiki pic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubus_arcticus It's still growing somewhere in my country but to much lesse degree than before - thanks to all the modern forestry ... Last edited by NarnianGarden; June 22, 2016 at 05:52 PM. |
