Clarification on seed saving

So, I am reading in my seed to seed book that cucurbits will cross with any other plants in their SPECIES. So meaning, if I only grew one variety of cucumber, no other cucumbers were grown, that seed will be true?

I did grow muskmelons, and watermelons. As well as squash. So I just want to be super sure before I grab that big yellow cuke out there I'm not gonna get something super weird next year!

Not necessarily. The cucumbers won't cross with any other cucurbit in your garden. However, if you have neighbors nearby that are growing cukes, you might get a cross between yours & theirs. I've had crosses appear in seed from squashes grown in my rural garden, where the nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile away... but no crosses (yet) in my cukes.
