Cheap Trellis

Well, by cheap, I mean less than $15.00.

This is made from 1" PVC and netting purchased on Amazon.

The trellis size is approximately 3 x 5 feet and the netting fits tightly.

The netting is substantial and I expect it to last a few years. I'm going to use the trellis for cucumbers and an identical one for beans.

Hi there, cucumbers outdoors should be ok because I don't think they will get very heavy or tall in this situation but climbing beans grow very fast Easily 8-10 feet and are much heavier than you might think. They need a wide base of support to support the weight.
Tall snap peas too can get heavy but not as tall or heavy as beans so may be a better option for your trellis. Guy wires and tent pegs would keep it from going over in a wind once plants are on it they catch the wind like a sail. The design is cool and would work well up against a fence or wall but not free standing without significant bracing I don't think.

I cant express to you how long cucumber vines will grow, I have had them up in the trees.
Two cucumber trellises I made a few years ago were 10X10 from 3/4 rigid conduit and they held up well.

My cuke trellis is 7 foot high and the cukes grow to the top and most of the way back down.
You may have to make a taller one.

Much of the joy I get out of gardening is in experimenting. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. I think the structures will do what I want them to do. I figure that cucumbers can climb up and then back down. Same for beans.

Sometimes I fail, but that doesn't deter me from trying another hair-brained idea next year.
