Friend I believe. Pretty certain they eat rot and decaying matter. Forget what they are called though.

Wow, thanks Breeze & Dude. Apparently Necrophilia is only dangerous to raw dead flesh and other larvae that eat raw dead flesh.

I'm not growing any of that in my garden!

Neighbors have wondered. Since being a tomato addict is not enough, I also dig hugelkulture beds. (Essentially a method of slow compost made of buried logs - great for Virginia clay with adjoining woods.)

A 4x8 bed looks just like a grave! I've learned not to dig them when my wife is away visiting family - the neighbors wonder!
