Thanks. I think disturbing the soil (tilling it some) helps them to germinate faster, too (in addition to warmth). That's an interesting thought with the black plastic. It might help to warm them. I don't know if they need light to germinate (I think I've heard that they don't), but ventilation helps for germination in my small, unheated greenhouse. I'm not sure if the plastic would allow enough air in (but it might). If the opening to the plastic isn't too far away, I imagine that would be a non-issue.
