Breeding with OP Husky Cherry Red?
Has anyone tried breeding this (or OP Husky Red) with any other dwarfs?

If you want to use your OP from Reimer's go for it, and just asking, what is your goal in doing this considering all the wonderful dwarf varieties already available and stable.. Hope that helps, Carolyn

Hi Carolyn-
Thanks for the links. I'm familiar with both, having grown all of them. The only major defect that I saw was that the regular Husky varieties were subject to BER as I grew them, and Better Bush was not. Not an issue with Husky Cherry Red. IMO, the cherry is a pretty decent variety (and seems to be a good seller), although I'm growing some experimental varieties from DFollett this summer, so the HCR may be a moot point. Pretty sure that Carol Knapp has an OP version of both. My interest is in F1's, and there are not any (I think) released cherry varieties yet from the project. The project varieties are great, but no cherries or grapes, yet. But my idea is to breed a dwarf indeterminate with another true dwarf and see what I get as an F1. But to my original question, looks so far like no one has done this. -GG |
