New Mex Sandia Select
Hi guys and gals
Has anyone grown the Nu Mex Sandia Select pepper? If so, what are your thoughts compared to Anaheim? Would love some seeds if anyone has some to spare. My Anaheims did very well last year and the 2015 season turned out to be a bust for them...not ONE mature Anaheim on 5 plants! |

I haven't tried that particular variety, but here is one that you might be interested in. It is becoming very popular here in SE Colorado at the Chile festival held in Pueblo every Fall. I had very good results using seeds from D.V. Burrell Seed Company. For a SASE I can share some seeds with a few interested growers.

Nu Mex Sandia Select is a specific pepper for a specific purpose that has only been out about a year or so.

My wife and I used to live near Hatch and the Mesilla Valley. The Sandia that we had were very hot, smoking hot. I suspect this Sandia select also is. The Chile Pepper Institute from NMSU says it has "uniform high heat level." If you can't tolerate very hot green chile, I would stay away from it. There are several other NMSU varieties that are wonderful, like NewMex Heritage Big Jim, NuMex Heritage 6-4 and NuMex Joe Parker.
