F5=?

I feel like I should know this, but I'm easily confused these days, so here's a quick question.
I have a pack of seeds marked with the variety name, and F5. Does that F5 refer to the tomato the seeds came from, or does it refer to the tomatoes that will be produced by those seeds?
I think it's the second, but I just wanted to be sure.

F5 seeds make F5 plants and F5 tomatoes. The tomatoes contain F6 seeds.

Agree with Nan. The F5 seeds came from F4 tomatoes.
