Name this eggplant Please!
I ordered Black Beauty eggplant seeds this year and these are what I have. I tried to find a name but didn't have luck.
Does anyone what what this variety is?

Apparently Parks calls this Black Beauty too but I've never had them grow like this.

Something is going on with these, I always had the oblong shaped eggplants but it seems normal on some sites.
How bunk is this review? 6 weeks, HA HA! jamiesan has some magic dirt or something. "Again, I live in an area that has a short growing season but I really wanted to grow my own ingredients for babaganoush...and I did. I planted the seeds directly in the soil and within a month and a half I harvested my first beautiful eggplant. These beauties grow large and keep well once removed from the plant. The taste is superb and I harvested eggplant all the way into October....maybe November if I recall. These plants produce very well. Will be planting again this year." https://www.rareseeds.com/black-beauty-eggplant/

They're shaped like meatball eggplant from burpee but look like BB's

Yeah. That jamiesan review is total b.s. 42 days. From seed. IMPOSSIBLE!
Anyway, back to BB & non-uniform shapes. Perhaps some seed suppliers are, by preference, are selecting smoother, more cylindrical fruit while others are selecting for wider, highly-pleated bells. |

I grew Black Beauty eggplant last year and loved it. My early fruits had "ribs" similar to those in the photos; the later ones were smoother. Maybe it's similar to how early tomatoes get cat-facing?

The review is preposterous. The DTM (from seed???) as stated by the reviewer is absurd, which calls into question all the other claims. In a normal year, the claim that the "short season" grower was still harvesting in November would have been just as ridiculous. But with the late freeze in 2017, that could have actually been possible... not that choice of variety would have mattered.
Not the first time I've seen questionable reviews on that site. |

My Black Beauty looked rather odd like that last year. I was surprised by the excellent production, again not my usual expectation of two or three eggplants.
This year I am growing one Black Beauty and a hybrid from Burpee featured last year. I saw two huge blossoms on Black Beauty and one blossom on the hybrid. I'll update with name of the hybrid later. - Lisa Edit - The seeds I used for the odd shaped Black Beauty were from an American Seed 20 cent package purchased a year ago at Wal Mart. In comparison, seeds from Lake Valley were the normal shape for several prior years. Never any deviation in the Lake Valley package. Last edited by greenthumbomaha; June 12, 2018 at 12:14 AM. I thought black beauty was supposed to be a "regular" eggplant like epic or galine, but google search is indeed showing both regular shape and that lobed, squat shape for black beauty. Rare seeds is showing example pics of both shapes for the same seed.
