Ready for the market
2 weeks ago, I just had 2 pint baskets going. Then I didn't do the market last week, so this week will be pretty much the first with all my tomatoes, and there are a lot of them!

Probably, or Pink Tiger, or both. They are pretty darn near identical tomatoes. I can't tell them apart once picked, they look and taste the same. Plants grow the same way too.

Wow! Really? Hmmm. It's supposed to be a different one.

Could very well be a coincidence, it's just funny. When I grew them, I expected them to be similar, I was hoping to compare them. I'll pick some from each plant tonight, maybe there's subtle differences that I don't notice when I mix them all together.

Pretty good day. Sold 6 or 7 baskets of big tomatoes, only came home with 2, and 3 of small tomatoes, those were less popular. People were excited to see them. The different colors are always a hit with some people. Other people just want red. Lots of people want to know what each tomato is. One person asked which tomato would be best in a sandwich. I told her the Cherokee Green, because it is my favorite for sandwiches. Sold some soap too, pretty high vendor and shopper turnout.

First 4 are Pink Tiger, second 4 are Candy Sweet Icicle. The CSI might be a bit more plump. They're not as ripe as the pink tiger here, but they're the same color when ripe.

Yesterday's tomatoes.
Sold three pints of small tomatoes, and all but 4 of my big tomatoes. People want the stripey ones first (GGWT and Mocha Splash), KBX is somehow too weird. Cherokee green only sells when I really talk it up. Bear Creek sells well, because people are familiar with Cherokee Purple, and assume it's the same thing (and they're generally uniform and perfect). Pineapple usually does well, but I didn't have any yesterday. Captain Lucky is too weird. I have lots to cook down today, I think I'll make some roasted sauce to can. |
