The Fooled You/Tricked You mild jalapenos become hot to my taste when ripened to red, inground or in pots. I have not had an ancho turn red in my climate, so I have no point of reference. In fact, the sole ancho plant that I grew was from a fresh seed of a walmart pepper and it was the only variety of pepper that did not ripen in the unusually wonderful hot and sunny summer we had. This summer was paradise for colorful peppers and beautiful butterflies but not initially good for tomato pollen.
