Thai Basil Growing in Djibouti
So I’ve been to Djibouti a couple times now and I have noticed that a variety very similar to Thai basil is grown in public spaces. Sometimes it is clearly cultivated and sometimes it appears wild. The plant is bigger than most Thai basil I’ve seen but the flavor is and appearance of the leaves is the same. Probably a long shot but does anyone know how this plant made it to East Africa?

Easy, it is right smack dab in the middle of the ancient trade routs.

That would be amazing but makes a lot of sense. I should present this hypothesis as fact and market it as a super rare trade route basil...jk.
