Hmong Red and Fairy Tale Eggplants
Tried germinating Eggplants for the first time this year, 100% strike so very happy. Was wondering if others have grown either of these two and how they found them. Hmong Red may also be called Red Ruffle. Thanks

Hmong Red seems similar to Turkish Red, a S. Aethiopicum. Very big plants, the fruit doesn't oxidize like normal eggplants. Still not sure if one needs to eat it green like a normal eggplant or wait until red. All eggplants have a slight unusual spicy component, which where I come from is considered undesirable. This one has a lot of that. Probably needs specific recipes to fully enjoy.
I have seen some video on youtube with an impressively productive Fairytale plant, very compact, fruit is small (like 10cm). Last edited by zipcode; September 23, 2019 at 09:54 AM. |

I grew Fairy Tale for the first time this year. It's a compact plant that was very prolific for me. I grew three of them in a big container and they're just slowing down now, after a little over two months of productivity. The eggplants are small, best picked less than 4" long. They are beautifully striped with purple against white; flavor is mild and seeds are quite small. I received seedlings from a gardening friend; even though I prefer open-pollinated varieties like Casper, Fairy Tale is one I'd probably grow again if I had seed.
