Where to buy a fermenting crock?
Hi! I would like to purchase a small to medium fermenting crock for pickling and pepper mash - where might be a good reliable and affordable source?
Thank you in advance for your answers |

Crocks are not cheap, but if you get a good one they are a one time investment. Checkout https://www.sausagemaker.com/

Commonly seen in antique malls here.
Old ones are indestructible and generally not terribly expensive. Not many people make things like homemade sauerkraut and fermented pickles anymore. Generally used as decorative objects KarenO |

1-2 gallons I think, needs an airlock and weights. Could beer making stuff work?

I use half gallon canning jars and fermenting lids from Amazon. Readily available, reasonable priced, easily managed, almost foolproof.

I like my crocks but purchased fermentation lids as well...a couple years ago.
We once made a 'crock' batch of kraut but it came out way too salty. So decided to make small batches and try different veg. I've been using quart canning jars. Good recipes, https://www.makesauerkraut.com/sauer...cipes-roundup/ I have three different Korean Chili flake varieties for kimchi. Trying to find one that is not killer spicy. Small batch fermenting I found one quickly rather than making large quantities. |
