Eggplants
When do you germinate Eggplants? Sooner or later than tomatoes?

I put mine on the same time - they are a little bit slower than tomatoes, so you might sow them a week earlier.

I start mine a little bit earlier too. Usually 3 weeks if I remember.

Using my planting technique, tomatoes take 3-4 days, peppers and eggplants 6-8 days or longer. The superhots can take up to 12 or more.
In general, I find germination of peppers and eggplants drop off more quickly than tomatoes - I get 14-16 year longevity for tomatoes - 3-5 years for peppers or eggplant (for excellent germination - they straggle and drop off after that)

So I should start. I will sow tomatoes in a fortnight. I have only two Czech seed varieties, perhaps they will succeed with me.

About the same time with tomatoes is the way to go. Yes, they will germinate slower. Yes, they will grow a bit slower in the beginning.
But also, you will plant them a lot later, at least two weeks. Might depend on the climate, maybe if you are somewhere where the weather suddenly warms up quick, then you don't need to plant them much later, but in the usual spring weather in Europe, you do. For example I planted tomatoes last year at the end of April, and even at 15 may it was still not warm enough at night for eggplant. |

I also bought Black Beauty seeds. I planted the seeds Wednesday, I'm just placing the seeds on the surface of the substrate. All 16 seeds already have a germ, I will backfeel them with substrate and put them in the light behind the window. Good start. I hope that they will grow nicely in the garden. I look forward.

We usually start eggplant seeds a month before tomatoes here in Zone 4a early in February and pepper seeds 2 weeks before tomatoes. They are slow to germinate and need at least 65-70 days before transplant date.

Same time. But plant out later than tomatoes.
But I sow peppers 2 to 3 weeks early.

I think you are right Zipcode. I usually wait a bit before planting eggplants. It's a good idea to wait until the weather is a bit warmer as well as allowing the leaves to get nice and big so they can fight off any flea beetles!
