Bay Laurel Tree from seed
Has anyone grown this from seed before. I received a bunch of seed from a French grower and have heard it is hard to germinate. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Terry,
From what I know, they take a long time to germinate. If you don't have any luck(though I hope you do!) you can have a sucker from mine. Remy

As slow as it grows your grand children will get to use it in their old age.

BAY SEEDS
1 Time i got seeds from bays to germinate for me here is how i get almost every hard shell seed to germinate:
soak seeds overnight get a coffie filter wet and put the seeds in it and then fold it in half both ways so you have 3 thicknesses on 1 side and 1 on the other, then i place it into a plastic baggie, blow a little air in,not a balloons worth just enough to lift the plastic a little, then place on a heat mat, seeds will germinate in 3 to 10 days, check daily and keep damp/wet,not soaking wet and turn, the seeds that require light put a lamp over them, using this i have gone from hardley any germination to almost 100%,I can now grow friuts, plants of HARD seeds with hardley any problems a good resource for this method is : www.gardenstore-n-more.com Good luck and let us know if this worked for you !!! |

Thanks Garden, that was so helpful.
Do you zip the plastic baggie shut? I know that sounds like a silly question, I just want to make sure that I do it right.

Whoo hooo! I am so happy someone knew how to do this. I hated the idea of wasting that seed.
Thanks again!
