There was some discussion about Dragon Tongue Beans in this previous topic:
http://www.tomatoville.com/showthread.php?t=5289

It can be grown as a shelling (dry) bean, but I think it is fantastic as a fresh wax bean. And a wax bean, as far as I can tell, is just any fresh snap bean that is not green. Dragon Tongue beans, when picked fresh (just as the beans are starting to swell) are long, broad, tender, and buttery, and productive! I consider them the Brandywine of the bush bean world, without the fussiness.

I am growing lots of Dragon Tongue, as well as two other types of beans with similar streaked color appearance, Uncle Walt's Cranberry Pole Bean and Dwarf Taylor. I feel bad that I'm not growing any French filet varieties like Triomphe de Farcy but I had to prioritize, also Suze and I are growing Uncle Walt's in memory of Big Red as it was a variety he championed.

My garden is right on the cusp of starting to deliver. All the beans have flowered and some tiny beans are forming all over. The Poona Kheera cucumbers have quite a few male flowers which means the females aren't far away. I've had my first Jet Star tomato (lovely) and harvested the first couple of Sungold (still several days from ripe). In 2-3 weeks I hope I will be buried in produce! I actually made a list of all the neighbors and friends I'm supposed to remember to give all this stuff to. I shouldn't count my chickens, but I have 350 non-cherry tomatoes at this point.

By the way, I gave some growing suggestions on beans here:

starting in the front left to right, New Big Dwarf and JD's Special C-Tex, Beefmaster, Jet Star and Arkansas Traveler. Monomakh's Hat and Paul Robeson, and in the back Cherokee Purple and Stump of the World.

Really impressive! Especially the New Big Dwarf which was late late late for me. How many fruit would you say you've got on NBD?

I'm probably a week to two weeks away from the floodgates opening. I'm thinking because of how my fruitset happened over several weeks I might have a more prolonged season than last year's "2 weeks over and out".

I pulled 2 more NBD this morning, looks like I may end up with around 20 overall. Less mishappen fruit on this variety this year for some reason. Battling blight with the variety however. On another note, I had my first Paul Robeson yesterday and it was very good. With every new to me variety, it makes it harder to choose a favorite. Earl's Faux and Aunt Gerties Gold are the only ones I have yet to taste this year.

I grew those beans last year, and they are great fresh. I have some more in this year. I got my seeds at sandhill. I think they are listed as Dragon Lingerie.

I didn't know dragons wore lingerie, but I guess they'll try anything once.

I am harvesting 3-4 handfuls of Dragon Tongue every other DAY right now.

First sowing of Dragon Tongue appears to be fizzing out now. Really enjoyed the variety. I have an extra pack of Roma II seeds that I am going to put in their place. With the heat coming, I may be wasting my time.
