Ah, it may be cold and wet to you, Worth, but it'll be warm and wet by the time it gets to us! Everything is relative...

I watched the weatherman on the news last night and he showed us where the next system is coming from, yep the Gulf of Mexico. Your rain is my rain this winter.

I can only wonder how it gets soooo windy by the time it gets here. Honestly, we don't usually get much southerly wind even in the summer!

It's been sunny and below freezing for two days with light winds and there is no ice left in my driveway since the thaw. No snow on my garlic beds. Half the garden is empty of snow entirely. 10 mm rain expected tomorrow with high southerly winds once again and temperature going up to 8 C = high 40's F.

Three inches of snow this morning (added to the three inches already on the ground) made for a very pretty day. And the temperature was mild - high 20s - so I was very happy to be outside shoveling while listening to music on my headphones. I was in such a groove and enjoying myself so much that I also did my neighbor's driveway too. And I was actually a bit sad to come back inside...

...but the good news is that we have 6+ inches on the way for Friday!

My work mate asked my why I was running around with no jacket on in warmer weather.
WHAT???
You need to start getting acclimated for the summer.
"He was bundled up so he could get acclimated for the summer".

Your crazy, aren't you burning up?
Yes but I am going to be ready for the summer it is just around the corner.
Then it got cold again and he is freezing to death.

You need another jacket he said today, 'aren't you freezing?
Got long coats and fur hats in the truck in case it gets cold.

Yeah, there's no getting used to it when it changes every two days.

I guess the garlic mulch is really being tested. Pouring rain today then down to -3 tonight and down again to -11 C (12 F) the next night with no snow cover expected.

That is probably about as severely cold as it normally gets here, not counting windchills.
OTOH I'm thinking it is a bad winter for rats as well.

For sure they count on the snow cover to provide a place for them to shelter. Minus 11 might be enough to freeze em in their ground burrows without the snow to insulate em.

Or so I'm hoping. I feel mean and cruel saying that, but... if nature can reduce that population, it is for the best.

Agree Worth1, it's a yo-yo here too. Getting a little wall - eyed from the strain. Damp too. Could be the makings for a very violent spring with all these swashbuckling fronts. The winds have been ferrous too. Got some onion blunts I need to get in the ground - hoping this weekend.

Yesterday the snow fell, then the rain..... snow blower useless in the slush. DS shoveled two paths down the driveway 1000 feet down then 1000 feet back, he rocks!

Walking on ice until next melt.

Yesterday it had snowed another 10 inches, and of course that's when the augur drive belt broke on the snowblower/tractor...

So we shovelled too. At least it was only minus 11 with a windchill of - 20 something. This morning it was -32 C. And the barometric pressure has bounced from 100 kpa to 104 in a day. My poor joints!

the first day this week I didn't have to go shovel snow. guess what time I slept in til.... 4:30. sheesh. got up and went and helped put the snow plow back on the truck just incase DH needed it when he went to salt the parking lots of two businesses we keep clean. we did have 1/2" of snow.
