Zebra Rita was a big hit at market today, in that I sold the three of them I took, a new GWR sales record for me. Customers like the stripes.

I will have to make another attempt to try and grow some GWR.
In the past Green Zebra and Green Grape were not that impressive to me. The taste was ok but the production and disease resistance were low. I grew them few times.

How was the taste?

It was not bad at all, a nice balance of sweet and slightly tart, very juicy. It turns a little yellowish when very ripe.

I like Malachite Box and Jade Beauty better, in regard to flavor, but no one buys them when they look like unripe tomatoes. The stripes on Zebra Rita make the difference in helping customers understand that it is not an unripe red tomato.

Stripes do indeed sell. Here is a portion of what I have ready for the market this weekend:

In regards to flavor, my favorite is Black Krim followed by Cherokee Purple. Surprising to me is the Black Icicle which I grew this year for the first time. It appears more like a Roma type variety (shape), but was surprisingly good tasting and beautiful inside and out. The main issue is BER. I have eaten several as I just cut off the bad end, but I can't sell them like that. I have only had a few that I could sell. I believe there are a couple in the picture with the salad tomatoes (fourth picture).

Nice haul! Now do you just leave the boxes like that and let people pick out the ones they want or do you make up containers with so many and certain kinds in it?

Wow, I read about Black Icicle and its sisters. Are you growing them all?

Nice, Urban Heirlooms! I am just getting a few ripe ones here and those are in my tunnels...

Now I am off to a market myself... beans, tomatoes (independence day) flowers, beets, cukes, zukes... etc.. all in the van and ready to go.

I just got 7-8 off of the vines that were fine. I am hoping that as the season progresses, they will improve.

I am not sure what their "sisters" are. The only other similar shaped tomato I am growing is Trentons Tiger. Very little BER with those.
