So far my tomato plants have been thriving, even the Brandywine that seemed to have completely recovered. I have a couple of dozen more tomato plants I will take to my community garden where I rented a plot of 19' by 16'. That should give me enough room for a lot of tomato plants. |

Seedlings getting hardened off. Hopefully I can put them into the garden in a week or so!

Are they hardened enough this way or should I take them outside first? |

If they are indoors behind a glass window they probably have not been getting the suns full uv power. Most windows in homes have a layer of uv protection so if i were you i would still harden them off.

Now that my tomatoes are doing well thanks to Tomatovillians' advice, here's a photo of them (and my runner beans, borage, zinnias, etc.) in my overstuffed cold frame:
ColdFrameMay6.jpg They're going into the ground/their final pots in the next few days. Thanks again, Tomatovillians! |

First pic was right after I planted on March 5th...about 2 months ago. About 1 more month and I'll be chowing down (hopefully!).

Just make sure the growing tip doesnt burn, the existing leaves may get burnt some, but all the new growth from the time you set them out will be UV-ready. In a month those few lower leaves will have been long since forgotton and either fallen off or removed anyway.
