Carolyn,
I really had problems with germination Mountain Princess, Sophie's Choice and Urbikany. When I searched why, I discovered that the seeds of Mountain Princess were from 2006, 2010 and Sophie's Choice Urbikany do not know, but surely they are older (all germinated with helmet). I immediately dipped in water the other seeds to twenty hours. Today I got from each of these three two plantlets. Korney, I am of the opinion that the tomato seeds will germinate in any soil. I always sown into what I had at hand. I mixed my compost with some soil, sand, etc. I threw out large pieces, and there I was sown. Last year I sown into mix from my compost, store-bought universal substrate and first molehills. I do not know in what, but they were there germs of disease (perhaps Verticillium), and so the whole season has been corrupted. That's why I first used store-bought professional garden substrate that friend of mine recommended me (made in Germany) this year. It is not a substrate for sowing, but is considerably cheaper. I was just wondering because it looks very dark, not brown like peat.

In the substrate is black peat and seedlings (after transplanting) are being flooded with water.

You weren't kidding about being "very early." You're ahead of me, despite living in a colder climate.
http://www.myczechrepublic.com/weath...h-weather.html Czech Republic's climate is comparable to that of southern inland Canada. |

Outside, a beautiful white winter -12 ° C. I'm having fun with tomato seedlings. Today looks plants from sowing 21.12. this (leaf I write only when it is greater than 1 "). I'm having fun.
Vladimír PS.: Mountain Princess seeds not germinated, Sophie´s choice and Urbikany plants had helmets, which I tried to remove them, but I little damaged the cotyledons. I sow again 28.12. and they catch up with plants from 21.12. I will continue to watch! |

Vladimir, you are an inspiration!
I'm hoping to get some renos done in the house before I start this winter, but just thinking about it.... I am very tempted to start something - just a few! - even now in January. I love your diagrams! And I see O-33 is ahead of the pack. Your results are really helpful for others, and I thank you again for sharing them! |

This is the correct figure. I do not know why it occurred when rewriting to those errors.

very interesting. I like the diagrams of the progress. This project of yours takes a lot of time and and shows a lot of attention to detail which I can appreciate.
Looking forward to your results. KarenO |
