The Castle Dome Broccoli is heading quickly. I think I will be able to get my 2nd crop in the RB in 1 1/2 weeks. We picked the first batch of Espada Bush Snap Beans for the season. 48 days from seed planting. They are doing much better than the Jade IIs I had planted last year, even if they don't taste as good.
Pictures as follows: Broccoli, BCD tomatoes, Bush Early Girl Tomatoes, Esterina Cherry and Garden Scarecrow for Halloween. 8350929665225768165-account_id=1.jpg bcd.jpg BEG.jpg esterina.jpg larry.jpg |

Well I can’t say I’m real proud of what I do but here is how I stake container tomatoes. I start with the containers in a row of normally 4 to 6 containers. As a tomato plant gets of some size I stick a stake in the container all the way to the bottom. The stake is obviously more stable in a 10 gallon container than in a 6 gallon. My container stakes are quite an eclectic collection but my idealized container stake is something like ¾” x ¾” and 8 ft in length. Sometimes I rip up old or new wood on a table saw and can get these dimensions but other times I scavenge what I can find. Then at the ends of each row I drive a treated 2x2 in the ground. I can’t buy a treated 2x2 longer than 8’, so I take a piece of another and screw it to the longer piece. Then I can drive the resulting 2x2 in the ground at the end of the row and leave 7 to 8 feet sticking into the air. Basically I then do a Florida Weave between the more secure end poles and the plants and stakes in between. At this point I often use 3ply Sisal Twine which is strong but I can only reuse it a few times because it is biodegradable and it does just that, degrade. I actually prefer to use things like old telephone cable with twisted pairs and covered with a sheath. Things that come free and can be used over and over again, a sort of urban farmer recycling. Ginny Thank you. Coming from a tomato wizard such as you, I consider that a real compliment. Larry |

Ha! I am no tomato wizard... :-) I am very interested in seeing pictures of the progress of your plants. I've always been fascinated with the Florida weave but wasnt sure it would work too well here.
I love how diverse we all are but we still get to a pretty good end results. Just goes to show there's more than one way to skin a cat (and did everyone know that saying is about CATFISH, not actual kitty cats?... LOL). Ginny Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk |

Here's my tomato Plants
I wish I could put comments in between the pics like Ginny does
Notice how buggy the yellow sticky cards are already. Ginny - notice my EB Covers (ie compactor bags from HD). First to set fruit is ICD followed closely by SunGold. The close-up with Flowers is Dusky Rose. There was another group of flowers on the plant but it must have been too warm to set. Goal is to get most of the plants off the pool deck. |

You Floridians keep the pictures coming. You're giving this stubborn Texan ideas on fighting RKN.
