Monty will stand on his hind legs and paddle his feet together up and down.
He would have made a good circus dog.
Very smart.

I sent the pictuer to his owner she thought it was hilarious.
They are a young couple that live up the street.
She is also happy that he comes to my house to visit.
Sometimes he will stay with me all day.

About an hour.

Everything completed but the gasket.
All of the metal parts were de-rusted and boiled to neutralize anymore rust.
Including the screws.

I noticed moisture on the glass of my little KOOK Kwick canner gauge so I decided to take it apart and give it a cleaning and oiling.
This is why I like these old gauges they last forever if you know how to take them apart without breaking them.
This is also how you get into them to calibrate and set to zero.

Worth, looking at the pictures - is that Teflon tape on the threading? I strongly believe in Teflon tape on threaded plumbing. Just curious.

Yes it is Salt I use it and RectorSeal both.

I want to add the NEW gauge I bought is out of spec on the treads this ticks me off to no end.
It is national pipe thread but the diameter is cut a wee bit too small.

Today I took all of the gauges apart and cleaned them of all rust and polised them up.
Putting the one back together for the Kook Kwick I gave the cover just one last squeeze and cracked the glass face.
No big deal I will get another face.
The old gauge for the National is a geared gauge and very good quality.

The other day I called up the Auto supply store down the road from me and asked if they had a 1/8 NPT die to cut threads.
He came back and said they did.
I told the guy I would be there later to get one.
I was in line waiting because I couldn't find one on the rack.
I told the guy I called about a 1/8 pipe die.
Another guy tossed it down the counter and I bought it.
This isn't the first time they have done this for me.

Yes I did some experimentation and I found it.
I also found what I am 99% sure is the gasket replacement for the Kook Kwick 10-21 canner.
It is part number 09907.
I am almost sure of it.
It is a flat gasket and from all looking and reading it would fit this canner.
This gasket fits many of the old canners that use the same flat type rubber gasket.
Will I get one NO they are rubber from what I can tell, information is lacking.
There is also another one that should fit the smaller Kook Kwick 7-16 it is w906.

What I have done is experiment with some splicing tape this isn't regular tape.
I put it in the ring groove folded in half and lapped over by about 1/2 inch or so on the ends.
Pressured the canner up to 20 PSI and it held pressure.
One problem the tape is rated for only 198 degrees F.
I am not a fool I will not put this stuff under steam.
Not that I am worried about it blowing out as much as it becoming stuck in the groove and being hell to get out.

What I did find is silicone tape.
It is rated for 500 f and has about a 900 psi tinsel strength.
It will fuse to itself but not to anything else.

The first attempt with the tape was a fiasco.
The second attempt with a different technique worked.
Here it is undergoing testing under steam.

Folks I think we have a working canner no leaks what so ever.
It sure is nice to see this ole gal back up and running, it has been a lot of work.

As soon as it gets through with it's testing time trials I will see what my homemade gasket looks like.
It is supposed to be good to 500F.

Testing is completed no heat distortion or damage to the homemade silicone gasket at all.
