Has anyone got a rough estimate of package costs return to Canada? I do have US $$ lying around from trips across the border. Would $5 cover it?

My best attempt at deciphering the USPS site says 6.55 (US) for return postage. Your postage to get here may be lower.

5 dollars (US), with or without one Global Forever stamp if you can locate one, is close enough for me.

The yearly slowing down/almost crashing computer is happening again. It usually takes about a week of emails (which I'm having trouble opening) before things settle down.

For now, it looks like the Sun Gold bulk order may not happen. I still have not received an email back from the vendor on the availability of 500-700 seeds.

I don't think I can get a Global Forever stamp - I won't be going across the border anytime soon, and I don't think I can buy US stamps here in Canada, although we have something similar here it would be of no use to you! So I'll just pack in whatever US currency I can find and try to cover at least that. I'll be sending in over 100 seeds, lots of different types that have been requested. I hope it helps.

I was going to ask you about removing sun gold from my wish list and adding Litchi instead. I will not be sending in my wish list on paper until much later in the month because I'm still waiting on seeds to finish drying/getting ready.

Default Experimental Category and Sponsoring

What is the convention (if there is one) for the experimental category - F1s, F2s, how many seeds? What is typically sent in? Is it kosher to ask for seeds back if they see anything they like? I don't have anything exotic, but made several crosses I am playing with -

Black Early x Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye (F1 & F2) - F1 was ribbed purple medium beefsteak with great flavor -
PBTD x Black Early (F1 & F2) - same as the reverse cross above -
Hugh's Black x Azoychka (F1 & F2) - F1 was 4-5 oz smooth red globe with great flavor
Brandywine Cowlick's x Margaret Curtain (F1) - growing out now
BKX x Margaret Curtain (F1) - growing out now
Pink Pioneer x Margaret Curtain (F1) - growing out now
BKX x SNFLA (F1) - growing out now
Black Sea Man x SNFLA (F1) - growing out now

I don't have much on a wish list, but will send one in with seeds. I would be happy to sponsor anyone in any of the primary categories (I saved way too many seeds this year). I'll send in packets of everything I have that I see on the wish lists as bonus packets and be happy with anything that comes back.

The Experimental category is for anything not considered stable, excluding F1's. So, F2's, F3's, F(lost track of's), etc...

Also, of a known variety, any off-type leaves (PL instead of RL, etc...), fruit color (pink instead of red, etc...), fruit shape (heart instead of beefsteak), etc...

At a minimum, I'll have a PL version of Gajo de Melon in the Experimental category. I'll be calling it "Gato de Melon", named after a stray cat that spent much of the summer in my garden.

Upon further thought, home-grown F1's would be welcome in the Experimental category.

A rainy Saturday means no gardening/yard work today. Along with a long weekend, I should finally be caught up on all emails and PM's. So, I should be posting a large update to the Master Wish List on Tuesday.

When writing your sending in list, for peppers, please write the variety name and whether it is a hot or sweet pepper.

Also, does anyone in the swap have any Glass Gem corn to spare?

I'll be off-line until Tuesday.

If you look at Tania's page for Huevos de Toro, you'll see that it was renamed Couilles de Taureau by actually Roland Robin in France although she doesn't know that. I was the first to get Couilles de Taureau from Rheinhad Kraft in Germany, not knowing the background.

I do know the background now since a good friend who is fluent in French asked Sebastian at Tomodori toput up a thread abount it.

So what you should be looking for are seeds labelled Couilles de Taurau.

Ilex from Spain has also posted here that there are many versions of Huevos de Toro and the one that reached France was the large red beefsteak one, which I happen to think is excellent.

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Huevos_De_Toro

You can see that Tania says it was Angelo Dornay who first translated it into French, but it was actually Roland Robin. And while Tania says she hopes the name should go back to Huevos de Toro that won't work b'c of what Ilex from Spain explained as there being different huevos versions.

I'll try to update Tania about all of this when I have time,

Carolyn

Cool on the Couilles.

For those unaware, on the Master Wish List, the number ( ) after the variety means how many requests (so far) for that variety. A (+) means there will likely be more than 10 requests, once all wish lists are sent in.
