I just got the SSE catolog and discovered that Thelma Sander's Sweet Potato is actually a cute little squash. Another squash that looks good for people who don't often cook big meals.

I've always wondered how TSSP tastes. Some say it does taste like sweet potatoes, others say it doesn't and is fairly bland. One of these years, maybe I'll try it.

The SSE catalog says it tastes like chestnut. But reviews say it's "better than sweet potato" which I interpret to mean it reminds people of sweet potatoes enough they'll make the comparison. I've never grown it so I can't say.

The biggest reason I'm a skeptic, and haven't tried it, is because it's a C. pepo. Generally, I've found these to be fairly bland.

If only the maximas, generally the best tasting to me, had the vine borer resistance of the moschatas.

Well, small is a consideration, but if it doesn't taste good it's just a weed disguised as a vegetable. ;-)

That second statement about the maximas is the truest thing I’ve heard in awhile!

we'd be interested in any of the beans you have listed other than the soybeans. I've grown Thelma sanders sweet potato. it doesn't taste like sweet potato. It's o.k. for a winter squash. there are definitely varieties I like better!

Adding to my list...

Melons:
Ginger's Pride
Noire Des Carmes
Royal Golden

Squash:
Kakai hulless
Honeynut
Styrian
Greek Sweet Red

Feel free to add additionals as you see fit. I won’t grow em if I don’t have them!

As far as the beans go- If your bean contributer IL Cr R by chance? If so, I can look at his collection and give you a list. If not: I’d be interested in mainly pole snaps, but bush snaps are good too! Also, shorter DTM Lima’s, fava beans and is really like yardlongs!

The Zeppelin Delicata, that you chose, should taste closer to sweet potatoes.

IL Cr R... I don't believe I've traded with. Any chance you can share contact info? And, I'd really like to see the list.

I recommend only planting 1 lima variety, unless you can isolate multiple varieties from each other. I'll send a few that need to be replenished. My guess is the bush types will be earlier than the pole.

And, I didn't list all of the yardlongs. There are also a few generic ones, black seeded and brown seeded. And, I think maybe a few where I only have a couple of seeds of each.

Sounds good Gary- I will PM you his info. I am doing a grow out for him next year.

That works for the Limas! I’ll only plant one variety. I might be getting a seed contract, so need to keep space open for that vs my other projects.

Gary, Add some of these to my list please,
SQUASH, I don't need them all, but these should do well for me.
Australian Butter- will save seed if they grow
Blue Doll F2
JWS 6823 F1
Tetsukabuto F1-- I planted all the seed you sent before, would like to try crossing them with theirselves.
Yokohama

BEANS
Pima Orange Lima
Anything that will grow in my shorter growing season, the southern types don't do well here. Pole or bush are fine, the majority of the seeds I grow are for drying/cooking.
If you have some that need growing out for seed, send some of those too
Thanks
