Best time to visit Cape Cod is early December, if you ask me. Winter clothes required, but you often have the beaches to yourself, even on a weekend.

If anybody is interested in what I do here is one of them.
Today my helper called in sick so I'm working by myself.
What you see are bell boxes with door holding electro magnets on them.
The two disks on the door connect to them.
When the alarm goes off the electricity is cut and the doors close.
I'm doing every bit of this job including running conduit and drilling holes in 8 inches of concrete between floors.

It's raining again in Louisiana, just another rain storm.

Very neat to see the work in progresss, Worth.

If anyone is interested in seeing what I do I'm a technical writer and right now my coworker and I are creating a style guide for our department from scratch because none exists. If you don't know, a style guide creates and defines the standards for documentation for a company, or even just for a project. This is what my desk looks like right now as I pull information from every resource I can think of.

Well in general, anything. I work for a company that makes banking software, so I document that software.

At least I get to express my artistic ability a wee bit.

Hahaha I'm just happy to be writing for a living! Nothing artistic about it, but there is a good sense of satisfaction in creating something from nothing, and I'm a research junkie so there's plenty of that for me to do.

Also, here's a better explanation of a style guide (my brain is fried today, so I'll let someone else explain it):

'A style guide is a reference document that includes rules and suggestions for writing style and document presentation. Style guides often specify which option to use when several options exist, and they include items that are specific to the company or industry and items for which a “standard” or example does not exist through commercial style guides. The specific content in the style guide is not usually a matter of “correct” or “incorrect” grammar or style, but rather the decisions you or your employer or client have made from among the many possibilities.' (from https://techwhirl.com/developing-a-d...l-style-guide/)

I had to look it up. I still barely understand it. Like instructions for how to use it? Is that what 'document' means in this context?

Yeah, that's it! I document what the system looks like, how each feature works, and all the processes a user can perform in the software. Kind of like writing a manual, but there are different levels of detail we go into for each type of document. We also write release notes that go out each time an update or patch is made to the software, to describe what's been changed. Sorry for not going into more detail originally, I just always assume people aren't interested in what I do since it sounds so boring! People's eyes tend to glaze over if I talk about it in person, so I've learned to stay vague and broad in most cases.

A style guide is a meta-document -- a document about documents. Kind of a how-to manual.

Having one for a company will make it easier on everyone.
