We are all a bunch of greenies now.

Any new pictures of the Lower and Lean method or do they still look about the same as the last pics?

Also, what is that determinate tomato you are growing outside? My starting season is coming up soon.

Barb, I am getting ready to lower them again, it will be the 4th time. The vines are at least 15 feet now, fruit production is still pretty good. I will post some pics this week or so.

I have several going outside. I will post individual pics and descriptions soon.

Pink beefsteak update. Elgin Pink is beating my big three, Rebel Yell, BW Sudduth's, Crnkovic Yugoslavian. Excellent tomato, and it is not so temperamental either, decent shape, controlled cracking, good yield. Thanks for the seed Florida friends.

Agree, it is must to have in the garden. And more than one plant too.

I like Elgin Pink very very much too, as you said, a tough plant. Flavor can surprise, productive, large attractive fruit, it's hard to find a con.

C. Yugo can be sublime when all cylinders are firing.

I originally got seeds labelled in handwriting I couldn't read very well, so I called it "Ellen's Pink" for a couple years. I don't think I grew it out, but gave some plants away, and it was a favorite of a few relatives of mine.

I love Elgin Pink and grew it for several years. Last year it was outpaced by a wonderful pink beefsteak called Brandyberry Pink. This is my first year planting Polish it is keeping up with Brandyberry Pink. Rebel Yell makes many wonderful tomatoes for me, though, so it has made the lineup for some time. All great varieties.

Mark, you should try Polish. I am growing it for the first time as well (Marsha, thanks for the seeds). Really great tasting tomato, despite our hot and rainy summer. It is about 8 ounces on average, good shape. The other one I really liked is Wild Thyme Pink (Marsha, thank you).

btw I am growing your Mat-Su Express in 5 gal. container (seeded June 9, transplanted June 28). It is blooming. Looking forward to this one.

Thanks Ella. And Mark, Ella's right, you should try Polish. And Wild Thyme Pink is a crazy productive RL sibling to Elgin Pink. About 5-7 oz in my garden, so smaller, also more ribbed than EP, very great flavor, very good shelf life, a good market tomato. PM me if you want some seeds.

I grew Polish several years ago and it was a good one. I will have to try Wild Thyme Pink.

Elgin Pink were some excellent plants for me two years ago. Another husky potato leaf with large fruit and high production was Olive Hill for me last year. The taste and texture were similar, but the Olive Hill overall had better shaped tomatoes and less catfacing.

Brother Ricky, good to hear from you. I will certainly try Olive Hill, and I have a pink for you to try too. I have not named it yet, but you will like it.

Olive Hill is very high on my list too.
